A426 Blaby/Whetstone Bypass Highway Construction Work
We have received the following letter from Leicestershire County Council regarding Highway Construction Works to be carried out to the A426 Blaby/Whetstone Bypass:
"I am writing to inform you of forthcoming essential maintenance works being undertaken at the above location. The project has been funded by The Department for Transport to assist with Covid -19 recovery, help stimulate the economy and improve the highways supply chain
Works are expected to commence on the 11th January 2021 and last for approximately
2 months (weather permitting).
Works will be undertaken from the Leicester Road roundabout at Blaby to the Wychwood roundabout at Whetstone, including both sides of the dual carriageway and the roundabouts in-between this location.
The works will include resurfacing of the carriageway, installation of an asphalt reinforcement layer below the new surface in the worst sections and the replacement of road markings and studs. In addition, there will be minor footway re-surfacing, kerb replacements and drainage works, along with structural re-waterproofing over the pedestrian underpass on the A426 Blaby Bypass near to College Road, Whetstone.
During this period works will necessitate temporary night time road closures between the hours of 8pm - 6am with a diversion route in place. There will be temporary daytime lane closures as this is the only safe and practical way to complete works.
A 24hr road closure will also take place for a period of around two weeks between Enderby Road roundabout to Grove Road roundabout, exact timings of this will be added to the County Council Website page mentioned overleaf.
Works will be split up into phases to reduce disruption to road users and the official diversion route will be clearly sign posted along A426, B581, B4114, A563 and in the reverse travel of direction.
All works scheduled during this period may be subject to change due to adverse weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
Please refer to our webpage for additional information where we will be sharing more detailed timings of the works, plans showing the project extents and traffic diversion routes, plus news updates for the project if changes arise, these details will be found at:
If your property is directly within the road closure, we will endeavour to provide vehicular access where possible, although restrictions may need to be in place for long periods during working hours to protect the workforce / public & prevent damage to freshly laid hot surfaces.
Traffic marshals will be in place at strategic locations to give assistance and to control access through the works.
During these works it is inevitable that some disruption will be caused, and we apologise in advance for any inconvenience. Your cooperation and understanding during this time will be very much appreciated."
