 Senior Grounds Maintenance Operative

 Blaby Parish Council has a great opportunity to join our team as a full-time Senior Grounds Maintenance Operative.

We require an enthusiastic person who enjoys working outdoors and can carry out manual work and general maintenance to join our award-winning Green Flag Parks, Cemetery, Allotments & Open Spaces team.

The parks & open space team maintain 4 parks with play equipment, a large Cemetery, Allotments and Open Spaces as well as general maintenance within the Parish of Blaby and the Civic Centre.

You will be the face of Blaby Parish Council, undertaking a wide range of maintenance duties using various types of machinery, including grass/strimming/hedge cutting, litter picking, pruning, preparing internment of graves, as well as maintenance of the hanging baskets, assisting with Council events etc.,

The successful applicant will need to be experienced and able to demonstrate a good level of horticultural knowledge and have experience in the use of a wide range of horticultural machinery.  A full driving licence is essential.

Your working week is 38 hours per week. Salary scale is based on the Local Government Scheme between Scale 21 – £29,679 – Scale 30 – £37,287

BLABY PARISH COUNCIL – COUNCILLOR VACANCIES

NOTICE OF VOLUNTEER COUNCILLOR VACANCIES IN THE PARISH OF BLABY

6 vacancies on the Parish Council.

Notice is hereby given that, following the introduction of the Coronavirus Act 2020 and the subsequent postponement of any form of election until May 2023, the Parish Council intends to fill the current casual vacancy by Co-option.

Any person interested in filling this vacancy is asked to contact the Manager to obtain an application form.

The council may co-opt any person who is legally qualified to hold such office, and who is willing to serve provided they are a British citizen, or a citizen of the Commonwealth or the European Union, and are neither the subject of a bankruptcy restriction order or interim order or have, within five years before the day of the election, been convicted in the United Kingdom of any offence and have had a prison sentence (whether suspended or not) for a period of over three months without the option of a fine. Provided the person also satisfies at least ONE of the following they may be apply:

  • They are registered as a local government elector for the parish
  • They have during the whole of the preceding twelve months occupied as owner or tenant, any land or premises in the parish
  • Their principal or only place of work during the preceding twelve months has been in the parish
  • They have during the whole of the preceding twelve months resided in the parish or within 3 miles of it
  • They must also be 18 years or older on the day they become nominated for election.

An application from persons wishing to serve as a councillor need to be submitted to the Parish Manager who will invite applicants to attend a meeting and make a short (3 -5 minutes) personal statement giving the reasons for being interested in joining the Parish Council and what particular set of skills and experience they feel they can bring to the role.

The Council meets once a month, on a Tuesday, for its main meeting at 7.30pm. Apart from sickness, attendance is expected at these meetings.
